Paula Jo | Visual Storyteller of the Yampa Valley
For over three decades in Routt County, Paula Jo has harnessed the transformative power of imagery to chart the contours of her personal journey. Her work celebrates the radical individuality of every human path, reminding us that no one else shares your unique tapestry of stories, challenges, and triumphs.
At the core of her practice is connection — to place, to people, and to emotion. This sense of connection is the foundation of her work, shaping both the images she creates and the meaning they carry. Rooted in the striking landscapes and spirited community of the Yampa Valley, Paula Jo’s art becomes an ongoing dialogue between memory, meaning, and the creative spark.
The works in this show are composed of layered photographs captured over the years. Through texture, color, and warm, soft light, she crafts visual reflections of feeling and emotion — subtle yet resonant.
Her art embodies a visual quest for harmony, often radiating a meditative calm and reflecting her deep bond with the flora, fauna, and natural world around her. Drawing from both traditional and experimental techniques, Paula Jo now leans into innovation to create truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
A Colorado resident for the past 30years, her work has been exhibited regionally and is held in private collections.
